Steeking in Style - Aleks Byrd
Sunday, August 11
10:00am - 1:00pm (3 hours)
About the Class:
Tackle the scary steek and open a whole new world of possibilities with your knitting! Together we will explore two different styles of steek edges from the fun of a knotted fringe steek great for a shawl and the all round great reinforcement method with crochet. We will finish off with the perfect and super neat steek sandwich band that makes a great finishing touch hiding your steek on a cardigan.
About the Instructor:
Aleks Byrd is a knitwear designer with roots in Estonia, Canada, and the USA. Aleks’ passion is creating modern patterns with a connection to the past using little-known traditional Estonian techniques for unique wearable designs that are fun and rewarding to knit for all levels of knitters. Her portfolio of designs includes individual patterns as well as those published in The Knitter magazine and Laine Magazine. Her latest book Traditions Revisited – Modern Estonian Knits brings together her designs and teaching as an introduction to Estonian knitting, both traditional and traditional-inspired.
Aleks teaches workshops to demystify the deceptively easy techniques used in her patterns all over the world in the UK, Europe, Canada, the United States and Australia.
Aleks especially loves sharing traditional knitting techniques from Estonia with knitters around the world to expand their view on what knitting can be. She works with yarn shops and knitting event organizers to bring engaging workshops to your knitting community.
