Interested in teaching a class at Flock?

Flock 2024 was the first year we held classes and we are happy to offer them again to attendees this year! We're changing some things for Flock 2025 in an effort to standardize pay and class costs, so please read our FAQs below.

We will be hosting two open Zoom sessions for any potential instructors to come and ask questions!

Sunday, December 1 at 11:00am PST
Friday December 13 at 6:30pm PST

We have included the most common questions that we receive, but please feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

Teaching applications will remain open until January 8th, 2024

We know the holiday season is always busy, so we're keeping teaching applications open a little longer. We will let you know if your class has been accepted by mid-February.

General FAQ

How many classes will you be accepting?

Last year, we held a total of 31 classes with 17 incredible teachers. We're hoping to expand that this year, while focusing on offering a wide range of instruction.

How do you decide what classes you'll accept?

Our biggest goal is creating a well-balanced show that features a variety of fiber crafts. We want to make sure there's something for everyone, and we want to balance the offerings of teachers both local and international, and everywhere in between.

What's the class schedule like?

Classes will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - between 10AM and 5PM (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). They are typically broken up into morning and afternoon classes. Most classes are 2-3 hours.

We have a break in the middle of the day to allow for cleaning between classes and lunch.

Can I pick which day I want to teach on?

We will try to put you on the day you'd prefer to teach, and this is a question in the application.

However, this year we are requiring any class that's taught on Friday to also be taught on a day of the marketplace (the following Saturday or Sunday). This means if you'd like to teach Friday, you must be willing to teach the class twice.

What kind of attendance did the show have last year?

In 2024, we welcomed around 4,000 fiber enthusiasts to the show. We had around 500 students attend our classes!

Teaching Fees & Class Costs FAQ

How much do you pay teachers?

This year we will be standardizing teacher pay by paying an hourly rate of $200/hr.

Does Flock offer a travel stipend?

Yes! This year we will be offering a fixed travel stipend to out-of-state and out-of-country teachers:

  • Out of state stipend - $500
  • Out of country stipend - $1,500

If you are coming from another country, we will require that you teach at least two (2) classes over the course of the weekend with a minimum of 18 students per class (minimum may be slightly negotiable depending on difficulty of the class).

Do you pay a materials fee?

Cost for class materials will be passed onto the students attending, on top of the class registration fee.

Flock is happy to pay teachers upfront for materials once the class student minimum is met.

Will there be validated venue parking?

No, we are not able to offer paid parking passes. The venue has a substantial number of paid parking spaces on location. There is also free parking in neighborhoods around the area and public transit if you need to park farther away.

What will you be charging students for classes?

Our goal is to be able to keep classes as accessible as possible, while also being able to offer a fair teaching rate to instructors. Because of this, we will be standardizing the number of minimum students and the class fee to support that cost.

We anticipate classes will be between $100-$150 per class, not including materials.

Venue FAQ

Where is Flock being held?

Flock 2025 will be at the Seattle Convention Center - Summit Building.

This is a brand new, beautiful building in downtown Seattle with access to public transit, hotel accommodations, food, etc.

Since it’s a new building I’m assuming the accessibility is good, but could you talk about that more?

We can honestly say that we are proud to be working with the convention center for this event. They have been so thoughtful in how they have created the Summit Building.

The space is fully ADA compliant, with elevators, escalators, stairs, nursing rooms, gender-neutral restrooms, and a quiet room.

If you would like to see additional information about the space, you can find out more here.

Is it all on one floor?

The marketplace is all on the second floor, in a large exhibition hall. The classes are located one floor up in smaller classroom spaces.

What are the food options at the venue?

Like 2024, we will have a grab-and-go set up inside the marketplace with tables and chairs for people to sit and eat.

There will also be a coffee cart in the lobby space outside the marketplace.

In addition, there will be two restaurants on the main floor of the convention center, as well as three local spots right outside - Piroshky Piroshky, Monorail Espresso, and Pike Brewing (hot dogs!). There are a variety of restaurants in the area as well.
