Learn to Knit Stranded Colorwork - Laurel Garcia

About the Class:
Build on your knitting skills and learn stranded colorwork! The First Colorwork Hat is a great intro to colorwork with easy to knit stranded motifs using only two colors at a time. In this class you will be introduced to several ways to knit colorwork, how to manage and catch floats, read charts and more. Learn tips and techniques to make knitting colorwork a success!

Skills required for a successful class: Confident with knit and purl stitches, plus casting on and binding off. Students should have knit at least one hat previously.

About the Instructor:
Laurel Garcia is a knitting instructor based in the PNW. She has been teaching knitting for several years online and in-person and loves to share her passion and knowledge of the craft through patient, thorough instruction. My Casa Azul, Laurel's online teaching studio, offers classes and 1:1 Knit Help for the absolute beginner knitter to the advanced. Together, we build confident knitters and create community, one stitch at a time.

Skill Level:
All levels welcome, but prerequisites in the description should be met

Homework:
Using 16"/40cm circular needles, cast on 60 sts and join for working in the round. Work in 1 x 1 OR 2 x 2 rib until piece measures 1"/2.5cm (or desired length) from cast on edge. Students may finish the hat in class, an instant souvenir from the festival!

Required Materials:

• Pattern: First Colorwork Hat (pattern will be provided) Gauge is 13 stitches by 18 rows per 4"/ 10cm.
• 1 skein bulky yarn in Main Color (approx. 100 yards)
• 1 skein bulky yarn in Contrast Color (approx. 100 yards)
• Needles: US 11/ 8cm, 16"/40cm
• US11/8cm double pointed needles
• Notions:  6 locking locking stitch markers, one in a contrasting color
• Tapestry needle
• Washi tape or small post-it notes
• Optional materials: Small measuring tape, Scissors
