Cable Knitting Techniques - Sari Nordlund

About the Class:
In this class we will cover the basic left and right cables and their variations and combinations. We will learn how to knit cables without a cable needle, explore more complicated cables. During this course we will also discuss how cables affect the gauge and what you need to take into consideration if you want to add cables into existing patterns.

About the Instructor:
In a society dominated by fast fashion, knitting your own clothes offers an opportunity to get back to basics and take full creative control over your outfits. Recognizing the gap between contemporary trends and traditional pieces, knitwear designer Sari Nordlund set out to bridge that divide, adding a hint of flair to classic patterns that never go out of style. Her elegant and minimalist designs have been featured in international magazines such as Laine and Amirisu, and she’s here to show you that anyone can make stylish clothing like hers.

Skill Level:
Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Required knowledge: basic knit and purl stitches, working charts flat and in the round.

Homework:
None

Required Materials:

• Small skeins of yarn for swatching. The yarns should be preferably DK or worsted weight, for example merino or other smooth fibers with good stitch definition in light, uniform colorway so you can easily see your stitches
• Needles suitable for the yarn, for example3 mm (US 2.5) or 3.5 mm (US 4) needles. Sari suggests using 40 cm (16 inch) cables, but you can choose DPNs or longer cables, such as you are comfortable making swatches with
• A cable needle or an extra DPN in the same size or slightly smaller
