Woven Experiments: A Deep Dive into Materiality - Hannah Watson - Sat. 8/1
Woven Experiments: A Deep Dive into Materiality - Hannah Watson - Sat. 8/1
Saturday, August 1
12:00-4:00, 4 hours
About this class:
In this four-hour workshop, students will take a deep dive into materials studies on a small, handheld frame loom. Unlikely and sometimes non-traditional material combinations - paper yarn & pipe cleaners! - often lead to revelatory moments in the weaving process, and this class will serve as full permission to experiment with both traditional and non-traditional materials.
Portland-based textiles artist & instructor Hannah Watson will guide students through the warping process, weaving both one and two types of yarns at the same time, using multiple tapestry techniques, and adding in decorative flares like inlay yarns using your yarn scraps. Students will be shown how to finish off and display their small weaving, and will get to take home their frame loom for future projects. All looms and materials will be provided by the instructor, and students may bring additional yarns to weave with if they like!
Level: Beginner
What you’ll need to bring to class:
Any additional yarns you would like to experiment with (optional)
About the instructor:
I am delighted to teach weaving at Flock this year! As a weaver, dyer, and mixed media artist, I have been teaching up to 35 workshops/year in both weaving and natural dyeing subjects for the past three years for WildCraft Studio School based in Portland and Wool Friends based in Seattle. Currently, I'm scheduled to teach multi-day floor loom workshops with the Seattle Weavers Guild, the Portland Handweavers Guild, and the Whidbey Island Weavers Guild in 2026.
Please note - Marketplace tickets are not included in the class price and will need to be purchased separately.
In order to allow our instructors to prepare for their classes, we are not able to refund class purchases if your plans change. However, we are happy to transfer them if you find someone to take your place!
