About this class:
In The Mini Scarf Atelier we explore how to turn your ideas into actual designs.

During the workshop we will develop and knit a mini scarf concept from the ground up. We will look at proportion, texture placement, edging choices, and how different stitch patterns behave on a narrow canvas. You can experiment with cables, lace, or simple texture or colorwork repeats, and learn how to balance visual interest with wearability.

We will also discuss shaping options, clean edge treatments, and finishing techniques that give small accessories a finished and professional feel.

This class is about thinking like a designer: how a simple idea becomes a cohesive piece, and how texture, structure, and finishing details work together even in the smallest format.

Students will leave with a finished concept or in-progress mini scarf and the framework to design their own future accessories with confidence.

Required knowledge:
Basic knit and purl stitches, simple increases and decreases, working flat.

Level: Intermediate

What you’ll need to bring to class:
DK or sport weight yarn in a smooth, light solid color for good stitch definition, needles suitable for your yarn, cable needle if planning to work cables, stitch markers, measuring tape, tapestry needle, scissors, and a notebook for sketching ideas.

About the instructor:
Sari Nordlund is a professional knitwear designer from Finland whose work has been widely published internationally. She has collaborated with leading yarn companies and craft magazines, and is the author of Softly – Timeless Knits (2023) and Summer Knits (2025). Her newest knitting book will be released later in 2026.
