The Amazing Lace: Lace Basics and Beyond - Debbie Stoller - Sat. 8/1

The Amazing Lace: Lace Basics and Beyond - Debbie Stoller - Sat. 8/1

Saturday, August 1

2:00-5:00, 3 hours

About this class:
Unlock the secrets of lace knitting! In this class, you'll master virtually every stitch used in lace—they're all pretty simple. But more than that, you'll discover how these stitches work together to create lovely openwork patterns.

We'll demystify lace charts (yes, they can be tricky!) and show you how to read your own stitches as you work. This skill is a game-changer: you'll catch mistakes easily, knit with confidence, and truly understand what's happening in your fabric.

Through hands-on practice with a sampler, we'll see how yarnovers and decreases interact in different combinations to create lace fabric, giving you the foundation to tackle any lace pattern with confidence.

This is an advanced beginner class: you should be very comfortable casting on, knitting, and purling.

Level: Intermediate

What you’ll need to bring to class:
Light colored, smooth worsted-weight yarn. Size 9 needles, straight or circular—but we’ll be working back and forth in rows.

About the instructor:
Debbie Stoller is the author of the New York Times-bestselling Stitch 'n Bitch series of knitting and crocheting books. She loves teaching knitting and crochet, and is deeply interested in the way that needlework has woven its way through women's lives for centuries.

Debbie recently retired from BUST magazine, which she co-founded and where she served as editor-in-chief for 30 years, and holds a PhD from Yale in the psychology of women. These days, Debbie is obsessed with learning to spin. She lives in Brooklyn with her partner, 2 dogs, and way too much yarn.
