Learn to Knit Stranded Colorwork - Laurel Garcia - Sat. 8/9

About the Class:

In this class students students will be introduced to stranded colorwork with easy to knit motifs using only two colors at a time while knitting a bulky hat. Students will learn how to read charts and keep track of their knitting; be presented with three different ways to knit colorwork; understand color dominance and value, plus decode tension issues while learning about floats and when to catch them. We'll also cover fixing mistakes in our colorwork knitting. Students may or may not finish the hat in class but will have all the skills necessary to finish the hat at home.

About the Instructor: Laurel is an avid knitter, sewist and maker based in the PNW. She enjoys teaching, especially the beginner knitter, building confidence through patient and thorough instruction. By teaching others the craft of knitting, Laurel hopes to empower students to cultivate a skill that they can use to uplift everyday moments, create community and find joy.

Skill Level: Beginner

Homework: Prior to the class, please cast on 60 stitches of Main Color yarn with preferred cast on method, join in the round, and work 2x2 brim for 1".

Required Materials:

• 1 skein bulky yarn in Main Color (approx. 100 yards)
• 1 skein bulky yarn in Contrast Color (approx. 100 yards)
• US 11/ 8cm, 16"/40cm (or as required to meet gauge)
• US 11/8cm double pointed needles
• 6 jumbo stitch markers, one in a contrasting color (large enough to use with your needles)
• Tapestry needle
• Washi tape or highlighter tape
• Needle Point Protectors
• Included: Pattern will be provided in class
