About this class:

Join us in understanding how various yarns in different fibers, weights, textures, and colors can play nice together to easily make your wearables more interesting and beautiful. You will begin to explore how combining yarns gives you the ability to create stunning and interesting garments and accessories.

Level: Beginner

What you’ll need to bring to class:

Bring 4 swatches about 4” by 4” square in stockinette or your choice of stitch pattern in your choice of weight and colors. Please do 1 swatch in each of the following fibers: 1 swatch in a wool or wool blend of your preference 1 swatch in a different weight wool or wool blend of your preference 1 swatch in a plant fiber or plant fiber blend such as cotton, linen, bamboo or rayon of your preference 1 swatch in a synthetic or novelty yarn of your preference Bring the leftovers from the swatches, along with 3 or more other yarns to class. Yarns such as silk, mohair, rayon, and variegated will be helpful. A range of light to medium colors will work best for this. Leftovers from other projects are fine. Bring a selection of knit and crochet hooks, basic supplies like scissors and stitch markers, some way to make notes

About the instructor:

As a hand knitter and fiber artist, Lisa Louie is best known for knitted volcanoes. Her art is both unexpected, unique and ranges from beautiful and fun wearable pieces, display art such as sculptures and tapestries, to larger work discussing social issues and problems. Lisa also teaches and does design work, and is a long time resident of Kahului, Maui, Hawaii.
