Fiber to Finished Object - Making Intentional Choices in Spinning Yarn - Tazhiana Gordon - Sat. 8/1
Saturday, August 1
2:00-5:00, 3 hours
About this class:
The intention of this class is to begin the work of demystifying sweater spinning, by sharing the entire sampling process from start to finish, as well to have a conversation about what fiber types, including wool breeds and micron counts, lend itself to different garment constructions.
If you’ve ever wanted to spin a large quantity of yarn for a garment or larger accessory and have been stuck with no idea of how to start, you’re in the right place. This class will begin with a discussion about yarn construction and fabric drape and density, take you through my sampling process from start to finish, and then transition to a talk about grist, micron count and wool characteristics, as well as how to choose how much fiber to buy for a project. Finally, I’ll have several samples and knit swatches to share to being some dialogue about fabric construction and what helps the fiber shine.
Level: Intermediate
What you’ll need to bring to class:
Students are encouraged to bring handspun for show and tell.
About the instructor:
I learned to spin my own yarn in 2020 and since then, I've had the time of my life diving further down the rabbit hole of yarn construction and fiber craft. I am passionate about empowering makers everywhere to grab some fiber and begin the process of turning that raw material into finished yarn and then to a finished object you can take out in the world. Hand spinning has added so much joy to my life and it is a great privilege to be able to share that with other spinners and watch them light up as they master a technique or learning something new.
Please note - Marketplace tickets are not included in the class price and will need to be purchased separately.
In order to allow our instructors to prepare for their classes, we are not able to refund class purchases if your plans change. However, we are happy to transfer them if you find someone to take your place!
