About this class:
Shawls are more than pretty stitch patterns. Their shape, construction, and fabric choices all affect how they sit on the body, how they drape, and how they feel to wear.

In this class, students will explore the architecture of crochet shawls, including common shapes such as triangles, crescents, rectangles, bias wraps, asymmetrical shawls, and shallow scarf-style shapes. We’ll look at how increases, decreases, stitch height, gauge, and fabric density influence the final silhouette.

Students will work through small swatches or mini-shapes to better understand how crochet shaping works in real time. This class is perfect for makers who want to better understand shawl construction, modify existing patterns with confidence, or begin thinking like designers.

Best for: Crocheters who are able to chain, single crochet, and double crochet confidently and want to understand the “why” behind shawl shaping and design.

Level: Intermediate

What you’ll need to bring to class:
DK weight yarn 50 gms and an appropriate hook for dk weight yarn. Scissors. 4.5mm - 5.5mm crochet hook. Options are encouraged.

About the instructor:
Britt Garber of KnotBadBritt is a Seattle-based crochet designer and educator who loves helping crocheters have those “wait, I can actually do this” moments. Her classes are technique-rich, approachable, and rooted in understanding the “why” behind the stitch. Britt brings warmth, humor, and a little bit of yarn-friend chaos to the classroom, creating a space where crocheters can learn, experiment, and leave feeling more capable than when they arrived.
