About the Class:

Join Māori knitwear designer, Françoise, for an exciting journey into the world of Māori cloak weaving and its inspiring impact on her designs.

In this hands-on workshop, we'll dive into the Once Were Weavers pattern, mastering an open cable stitch that mirrors the intricate artistry of traditional Māori weaving. As you create a lovely knitted sampler piece, you'll connect with the rich cultural stories that shape this art form and explore how ancestral techniques serve as the foundation our modern creativity.

This workshop isn’t just about knitting; it’s a great chance to learn a unique skill, celebrate rich cultural traditions, and craft something truly special with your own hands. Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting out, you’ll leave feeling inspired and with a deep appreciation for the artistry and stories stitched into every piece!

About the Instructor: Françoise Danoy is a knitwear designer and fiber artist who combines cultural storytelling with modern design. Inspired by her Māori heritage and a love for mindful making, she has spent over 10 years creating patterns that help knitters slow down and connect with their craft. With more than 100 published patterns, Françoise’s work celebrates knitting as a way to tell stories, foster creativity, and build community.
