About this class:
Join experienced broom maker, Becka Viets of Hexagon Textile & Broom in learning hand broom making basics.
Students will learn with skills to make turkey wing brooms, hawk wing hand brooms. Class will also cover broom anatomy, lore, history, a demo and hands on broom making time.
Supplies to make two+ brooms provided by instructor.
Physical abilities needed; grasping, holding, turning/rotating, maintaining tension between a stick under feet and a broom in hands.
Level: Intermediate
What you’ll need to bring to class:
Flat bottom shoes or athletic shoes, no boots, heels or clogs
About the instructor:
Artist Becka Viets of Hexagon Textile & Broom is a longtime Bellingham resident. She creates sustainable, functional art for the home, focused on heirloom brooms and upcycled textiles. Her handcrafted brooms and broom making classes keep traditional making techniques alive, while her naturally dyed and upcycled textiles demonstrate a fresh new approach to the abundance of fiber materials all around us. Inspired by botany and the natural world, Becka's work demonstrates everyday household items can be art.
