Friday, August 8 - Morning

Learn How to Knit a Little Animal Friend - Cinthia Vallet

This workshop, taught by the creator of Mouche and Friends, is for people who would like to knit a little animal but think it might be too tricky. They'll discover it's not!
It's for people who like the idea of crafting their own toys but don't like assembling small pieces. Students will be able to take the jump, start a little animal during the workshop, and learn everything they need to know to complete it at home, with ease and pleasure. (3 hrs)

Makers Unite: Crochet & Knit Crossover - Kate Oates + Britt Garber

This collaborative workshop, led by crochet designer Britt Garber and knitwear designer Kate Oates, bridges the worlds of crochet and knitting. It invites knitters to explore essential crochet techniques and crocheters to try their hand at knitting: equips participants with the skills to complete the featured pattern using their preferred method. (4hrs)

Botanically Dyed Bandanas - Jenny Brown

Discover the enchanting world of eco-printing and transform an ordinary bandana into a unique, one-of-a-kind, wearable work of art!
In this engaging workshop, participants will learn the process of how to create vibrant and stunning imprints of botanicals on to fabric that will withstand washing and wear. (2hrs)

3 Dimensional Knitwear - Olga Buraya-Kefelian

This class is part demonstration with AV presentation and short lecture about 3D
knitwear in hand knitting approach, and all inspiration process. It will be part
swatch-fest and all inspiration. Present my 3D design philosophy, and gearing to
your own discovery of knitwear in a new light! (3hrs)

Creating Your Own Cables - Sari Nordlund

In this class we will learn how to create your own cable patterns. We will learn about the arrangement of cables to create your own fisherman style cable designs, combination cables, adding texture to cables and creating totally new cable designs from scratch.

We will also learn how to measure gauge over the cabled pattern and how cables affect the gauge over cabled fabrics, so you can start adding your own cables to existing patterns to give them your own flair. (3hrs)

Intro to Blending Boards - Roy Clemes

In 2011, Henry and Roy Clemes (of Clemes & Clemes) designed a new tool that eventually became the wildly popular Blending Board. In this class, you will learn basic techniques and use of a blending board from one of its designers. The class will not only demonstrate the versatility of the blending board - blending fibers of various types, lengths, and colors - but also the strength of the blending board - quickly preparing fiber in rolags for woolen spinning. (3hrs)

Sheep & Wool School: Fiber Processing for Funsies! - Amy Ross Manko

Ever gone to a fiber festival, somehow blacked out and found a fleece in your car when you got home? Have you wondered a fleece show and seen an inexpensive fleece and thought "so cheap! I could totally process that myself!" only to shove it in the garage because it was a daunting task and you lost your nerve? Join us as we discuss the what, where, and how of fleece selection, and then practice scouring wool together. (3hrs)

Fiber to Finished Object: Making Intentional Choices in Spinning Yarn - Tazhiana Gordon

The intention of this class is to begin the work of demystifying sweater spinning by sharing the entire sampling process from start to finish!

If you’ve ever wanted to spin a large quantity of yarn for a garment or larger accessory and have been stuck with no idea of how to start, you’re in the right place. This class will begin with a discussion about yarn construction and fabric drape and density, take you through my sampling process from start to finish, and then transition to a talk about grist, micron count and wool characteristics, as well as how to choose how much fiber to buy for a project. Doodles: Design and Knit Custom Colorwork Projects - Jamie Lomax

Learn to design and knit your very own custom colorwork projects using mix-and-match motifs available in the Doodle Pattern Series by Pacific Knit Co. Perfect for knitters of all levels, we'll cover the 3 Steps to Doodles: how to choose your Doodle charts, yarn, and pattern shape. Makers will get hands-on arts and crafts time while the cut and paste hundreds of micro motifs to build their own personal Doodle chart. (2hrs)

Intro to Drop Spindle - Jessica Ransom

Teaching the basics of spinning through a thorough, hands-on, experience through drop spindle. A cheap way to test out spinning- a slow and methodical skillset going back thousands of years. (2hrs)

Spinning in Color: Multiple Ways to Approach Hand Dyed Braids - Susan Astrid Willsrud

This class is all about ways to tackle the alluring multi-colored, hand dyed braids that everyone loves to look at (and buy!) but many people struggle with the spinning results. This class will cover several different ways to approach spinning colorful braids, including: fractal plying, creating an ombre yarn and creating self-striping yarns. Students will create sample yarns and have an opportunity to play with different techniques with some guidance as well as freedom to explore. (3hrs)

Ladderback Jacquard - Aleks Byrd

Create beautiful stranded colourwork not just from the right side but also the wrong side with this game changing float management skill. Ladderback jacquard will help you manage floats keeping them short to avoid any snagging while always opening up the possibility of knitting patterns with requiring longer gaps between colours.

In the workshop we will explore 2 ways of using ladderback jacquard by adding a ladderback stitch while knitting stranded colourwork and another method for creating the ladderback stitch after you've finished knitting colourwork. (3hrs)

Latvian Mitten Workshop - Lisa Sewell

We'll delve into the world of Latvian mitten construction, techniques, and design in this workshop. These wonderful mittens use a fingering-weight yarn, double point steel needles, and are worked up at 8-10sts/inch on #1, #0, or #00 needles. They wear like iron and get smoother and better with age! (3hrs)

Chart Your Path: A Knitter's Guide to Loving Charts - Lisa Toppin

This class is designed for knitters who want to elevate their skills by learning how to read and use knitting charts for texture patterns, cables, and lace. Students will explore the symbols, patterns, and techniques that make chart reading an essential tool in a knitter's repertoire. (3hrs)

Island Vibes: Summer Knits - Sasha Hyde

This workshop is designed to introduce knitters to the unique techniques and fiber choices that make summer knitting both stylish and functional. Participants will gain an understanding of warm-weather yarns, such as linen, silk, and cotton, and how their properties influence the drape, texture, and durability of knitted garments. Through hands-on practice, attendees will learn key decorative techniques featured in Island Vibes: Summer Knits, including modular knitting, intarsia, and lateral braids.(3hrs)

The Perfect Tee - Kate Oates

The Perfect Tee Handbook is a pattern and then some. This is a project based workshop for a very special project. Knitter's will learn how to work top-down, seamless set-in sleeve construction. Within the handbook, worksheets are included for short row bust shaping, waist shaping, sleeve length and sleeve shaping. We will begin by talking about ease, taking critical body measurements and choosing a size based on Upper Chest measurements, then go through each worksheet so that every student can plan their knit precisely to the shape of their body, with the ease they desire. (4hrs)

Hybrid Crochet (AKA Tunisian Crochet) - Kira Dulaney

Delve into an entirely unique crochet technique which is easy for beginners and interesting for experienced crocheters! Hybrid crochet uses two passes to create a single row, building up stitches on your crochet hook, then working them off on the return pass. It creates a soft, squishy fabric and can look almost identical to knitting! We will try five different stitches for a variety of textures and techniques. (3hrs)

Spin the Yarn You Want From Cobweb Lace to Super Bulky! - Susan Astrid Willsrud

This class is for spinners interested in becoming fully versatile in spinning all weights of yarns. Students will learn how to adjust their wheels and spinning techniques to spin everything from very fine lace to super bulky yarns. Students will create their own yarn sample card in the class. (3hrs)

Fearless Steeking - Andrea Mowry

Shake off the fear of steeking and leave with a wee stack of adorable coasters for all your knit night bevies! In this class we will let our hair down, cut some stitches and learn why cutting our knitting won't make it all fall apart. We will practice crochet reinforcement, picking up our stitches for a tidy edging, and of course, snipping our steeks! (3hrs)

Learn to Knit Stranded Colorwork - Laurel Garcia

In this class students students will be introduced to stranded colorwork with easy to knit motifs using only two colors at a time while knitting a bulky hat. Students will learn how to read charts and keep track of their knitting; be presented with three different ways to knit colorwork; understand color dominance and value, plus decode tension issues while learning about floats and when to catch them. We'll also cover fixing mistakes in our colorwork knitting. (3hrs)

All You Need to Know From Cuff to Toe - Lindsey Fowler

In this class, we will talk about and swatch details to take your top down socks to the next level. Once you have knit a knit a basic top down sock, there are so many simple ways to add textural elements or color in unexpected places. Using the blank canvas of a basic sock worksheet we can transform it into a variety of styles and aesthetics by adding a few simple details. Class will discuss and swatch cuff techniques and details, ideas for color placement, heel flap textures and a copy of my Lindsey's toe recipe.

Non-Intarsia Wave Cowl - Olga Buraya-Kefelian

Have you ever wondered if it's possible to create intarsia without bobbins? You will discover the answer when you knit this Wave Cowl, using modular style colorwork and utilize partial knitting as well as short-rows. You will have an option to implement optional tassels and customize this cowl to your liking. (3hrs)

Single Crochet (SC): The cornerstone of all crochet projects, the single crochet stitch is perfect for creating a sturdy and dense fabric.

Half Double Crochet (HDC): Learn the versatile half double crochet stitch

Double Crochet (DC): Discover the popular double crochet stitch, ideal for making everything from cozy blankets to cute accessories.

Treble Crochet (TR): Master the elegant treble crochet stitch, known for its height and drape

We will spend time covering each stitch with step by step guidance on how to complete each one. (2hrs)

Kuutar Pullover - Sari Nordlund

In the Kuutar pullover class we will learn the techniques you need to knit your own Kuutar pullover. During the class we will prepare a swatch, where you learn to read charts and knit the lace pattern. We will also learn the German Short Row and Tubular Bind Off techniques. (2hrs)

Initiation: Punch Needle - Francoise Danoy

Dive into the colorful and textured world of punch needle crafting in this introductory workshop. Punch needle embroidery is a fun and fast way to create textured designs that are both decorative and functional. In this session, you will learn the basics of punch needle, including how to handle the needle, create loops, and fill your design efficiently. This hands-on workshop is perfect for those looking to explore a different form of needlecraft that offers immediate gratification and creative exploration. (3hrs)

Exploring the Drum Carder - Roy Clemes

Drum carders are a mystery to the average fiber artist: fiber is fed into the carder, ends up on the big drum, and something magical happens in between. In our class, students begin the day by learning the history of drum carders, how they work, and why they function the way they do. The fun goes hands-on for the rest of the day as we delve into the differences of woolen and worsted carding, explore the many tools that make drum carding more efficient, and crank out four different batts. The first batt will be hand cranked before switching over to Electric Drive for the duration of class. All materials, carders, and tools will be provided by the instructors. (6hrs)

Sheep & Wool School: The Rare Breeds - Amy Ross Manko

Ever wanted to experience ALL the rare breeds ALL AT ONCE? This class will come close! We will start with the finer of the rare breeds and trek through the primitive, the medium and the longwools, while discussing their history and applications for today. We will discover new breeds we've not worked with before, as well as some new favorites and some fleece that is just begging to be blended with silk or camelid to make an awesome yarn. Our goal is to journey together to explore new-to-you breeds and find a few fiber destinations you'd like to revisit! (3hrs)

Fiber Deep Dive - Megan Monroe

Learn all about yarn! This class will cover the basics from yarn construction to fiber content. Learn how to pair yarn to pattern and pick out the perfect yarn for the project you want to create. There will be many knit samples in different fibers to see how different yarns behave once knit up. (2hrs)

Visible Mending - Kira Dulaney

Visible Mending is a creative way to extend the life of your clothing and household items while embellishing them for a unique look. We will decorative embroidery with and without reinforcement patches, plus woven patches using Speedweve looms. You'll leave with a new perspective, seeing stains and rips as opportunities rather than disasters. (3hrs)

Beginning Breed Sampler - Jenny Brown

Fine, medium, long wool, down - what do these terms even mean? And with hundreds of different breeds of sheep, how do you choose the right one for your project? In this sampler class, we'll explore spinning from several classifications of wool using commercially prepared fiber (and maybe a few luxury fibers thrown in for fun!), as well as discuss their characteristics & common uses to make you a more confident, informed spinner. (3hrs)

Knitting a Basic Sweater on the Go - Jonna Helin

This hands-on class will guide you through the process of knitting a top-down sweater without a preset pattern—perfect for adventurous knitters! We’ll cover essential measurements, simple sweater math and compare different construction techniques like raglan, drop shoulder and European shoulder. You’ll also learn how to choose the right cast-on and bind-off methods, adjust ease, select flattering necklines and add creative hem treatments. We’ll wrap up with a look at fashion fundamentals: how small design decisions, like ribbing length or hem placement, can dramatically shape the final look and suit different body types. (3hrs)

Roosimine Estonian Inlay Knitting - Aleks Byrd

Roosimine is an Estonian inlay technique that creates the appearance of embroidery through intentional floats in contrasting yarn on the right side of your knitting. It's the perfect technique to add some embellishment to your knitting that is easier than intarsia. The name Roosimine translates to 'decorating with roses' which comes from a style of short stitch embroidery done on the Estonian island of Muhu. Students will knit a small swatch in the round. (3hrs)

Be the Designer: Side to Side Triangular Shawls - Lindsey Fowler

In this workshop we will take a basic shape and learn to apply color, texture and some basic finishes to design the shawl of our dreams!

The side-to-side triangle provides the perfect formula for any weight yarn. We will discuss basic construction, edge treatments, the math behind the yardage, applying texture and ideas to customize. Worksheets will be provided to play and come up with design concepts. (3hrs)

Origami Knitting - Olga Buraya-Kefelian

If you are familiar with 3D knitwear, you know there are various methods of achieving texture in hand knitting. However, in this class we will dig deeper on combining several of these methods in an effort to achieve an unachievable - use knitting techniques that offer elasticity and malleability in order to create structured crisp lines reminiscent of ancient art of paper folding, or any other geometric iterations. Students can choose to swatch or cast on and put their newfound knowledge to practice by working on either YABANE COWL or COMPLEAT COWL patterns for making their own wearable origami accessories. (3hrs)

Tapestry Crochet - Rebecca Denning

Take your crochet skills to the next level with our Tapestry Crochet class! Designed for crocheters who are comfortable with single crochet, this class will guide you through the fundamentals of crochet colorwork.

By the end of the session, you'll have the skills to create a charming tapestry piece that can be turned into a delightful wall hanging - perfect for adding a handmade touch to your home decor. (2hrs)

Fix it or Frog It - Lisa Toppin

Everyone has an unfinished project hidden away in the naughty corner. In this interactive and supportive workshop, participants will bring their unfinished objects (UFOs) and share their knitting dilemmas. Whether it was a project stalled by mistakes, a technical glitch, or a piece that killed your mojo, you'll get the help you need to decide: should you "fix it" or "frog it" Together, we'll assess your projects, weigh the pros and cons of finishing versus starting fresh, and explore options for moving forward with a plan of action to bring your project to a successful conclusion. Explore the elegant world of shawl knitting in this workshop, where we will focus on crafting mini prototypes of shawls in three distinct shapes: asymmetrical, triangular, and crescent. You will learn specialized techniques that are essential for shawl knitting, including the Garter Tab Cast On, which provides a seamless start for many shawl patterns; the KYOK (Knit, Yarn Over, Knit) double increase stitch, which creates beautiful, decorative increases; and techniques for evening out yarn overs to ensure your fabric has a consistent, professional appearance. This class is designed to give you the skills and confidence to tackle a variety of shawl projects with these foundational shapes and techniques. (3hrs)

In this class, we will experience several breeds of Longwool sheep. Included will be some you may have worked with before and some you may never have even heard of yet! Amy scours (see what we did there?) the fields looking for oddball rare breeds to bring to class and she hopes you'll find a new favorite! We will start with her favorite longwool which has been used to develop over 300 "modern" sheep breeds and talk about not only the history and attributes of these awesome sheep, but also their application in your fiber arts journey. Learn to crochet a modern granny square with Becka! We love the simplicity and endless possibilities of these little pops of joy.

You will learn how to construct your granny squares, how to work with multiple colors and obtain ideas on how to incorporate your squares into larger projects. You can make endless creations with granny squares. (2hrs)

Combining Culture & Creativity: Tāniko Techniques: Māori Weaving + Knitting - Francoise Danoy

Explore the intricate art of Tāniko weaving, a traditional Māori method known for its beautiful, detailed patterns and cultural significance. This is the companion class to Exploring the Drum Carder. In this class, we continue to de-mystify the drum carder. Students will learn different techniques to create an art batt, prepare batts for spinning sock yarn, and learn to add silk or bamboo into woolen batts. Students will also learn to remove fiber as rolags and as pencil-sized sliver through a diz. (6hrs)

Sheep & Wool School: Island Sheep - Amy Ross Manko

In this class, we will experience several breeds of sheep from islands around the world. Included will be some you may have worked with before and some you may never have even heard of yet! Amy scours (see what we did there?) the fields looking for oddball rare breeds to bring to class and she hopes you'll find a new favorite! We will start with her favorite American breed that developed practically ferally on an island before moving on to some UK islanders and talk about not only the history and attributes of these awesome sheep, but also their application in your fiber arts journey.
