It can be lofty, warm, and full of color depth, but only if you know how to work with the fiber and draft in a way that supports those qualities. In this workshop, Alanna will guide you through spinning woolen style yarns using a range of woolen preparation fibers. You will explore how different preparations behave in your hands, how to choose a drafting approach that matches the fiber, and how to adjust twist so your yarn stays cohesive without losing loft. The focus is practical and repeatable. You will leave with a clearer understanding of what makes a yarn woolen, when to choose it, and how to spin it on purpose for the kind of fabric you want to make.

Level: Intermediate

What you’ll need to bring to class:
Yarn making tool: (working spinning wheel, electric spinner, or drop spindle), Spinning wheel oil (for spinning wheels and electric spinners), Lazy kate (tensioned is preferred) 3 empty bobbins with leader

About the instructor:
Alanna Wilcox is a fiber artist, professional educator, Master Spinner, author, and color specialist with 20 years of teaching experience.
