About the Class:

If you are familiar with 3D knitwear, you know there are various methods of achieving texture in hand knitting. However, in this class we will dig deeper on combining several of these methods in an effort to achieve an unachievable - use knitting techniques that offer elasticity and malleability in order to create structured crisp lines reminiscent of ancient art of paper folding, or any other geometric iterations. Students can choose to swatch or cast on and put their newfound knowledge to practice by working on either YABANE COWL or COMPLEAT COWL patterns for making their own wearable origami accessories.

 Skills learned:

  • The principles of 3D knitwear that ORIGAMI knitting is based on
  • Explore importance of fibers and yarns necessary for a successful origami knit
  • Mirror decreasing and increasing
  • 1/1 cable variations
  • Customize finished accessory to taste
  • Specifics on benefits and drawbacks of this unique stitch pattern and the technique

About the Instructor: Olga Buraya-Kefelian lives in Virginia but grew up in Belarus, where she learned knitting at a very young age from her seamstress mother. Olga’s knitwear designs are infused with innovation, from creating unique stitch patterns to exploring unusual construction. Having authored several books her extensive design portfolio ranges from accessories to garments, balancing her love for texture and minimalism with technique-driven elements to bring us impeccably finished knitwear designs that can enrich the skills set of any knitter.
