About the Class:
This hands-on class will guide you through the process of knitting a top-down sweater without a preset pattern—perfect for adventurous knitters! We’ll cover essential measurements, simple sweater maths and compare different construction techniques like raglan, drop shoulder and European shoulder. You’ll also learn how to choose the right cast-on and bind-off methods, adjust ease, select flattering necklines and add creative hem treatments. We’ll wrap up with a look at fashion fundamentals: how small design decisions, like ribbing length or hem placement, can dramatically shape the final look and suit different body types.
About the Instructor: Jonna is the founder and creative director of Laine Publishing, where knitting meets storytelling in beautiful, soulful ways. She’s a writer, photographer, and yarn enthusiast with a knack for connecting people and stitches. Expect inspiration, honesty, and a little Finnish magic.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Homework: Students should prepare a swatch (or swatches) in the yarn you'd like to use for your sweater and the needles you used—or bring yarn and a few different-sized needles for swatching during the class.
Required Materials:
- Bring yarn and a few different-sized needles for swatching
