Creating Your Own Cables - Sari Nordlund - Fri. 8/8

About the Class:

In this class we will learn how to create your own cable patterns. We will learn about the arrangement of cables to create your own fisherman style cable designs, combination cables, adding texture to cables and creating totally new cable designs from scratch.
 
We will also learn how to measure gauge over the cabled pattern and how cables affect the gauge over cabled fabrics, so you can start adding your own cables to existing patterns to give them your own flair.
 
Required knowledge: basic knit and purl stitches, basic cables, working charts flat and in the round

About the Instructor: Sari Nordlund is a Finnish knitwear designer known for her natural and timeless style, which has garnered a substantial following on social media platforms, particularly Instagram. She has authored two books, "Softly – Timeless Knits" and the new "Summer Knits" both featuring designs that blend inspiration with wearability. Her work has been published in esteemed knitting magazines globally, and she has collaborated with leading yarn companies such as Woolfolk and Brooklyn Tweed.

Required Materials:

• Small skeins of yarn for swatching. The yarns should be preferably DK or worsted weight, for example merino or other smooth fibers with good stitch definition in light, unicolor colorway so you can easily see your stitches
• Needles suitable for the yarn, for example 3 mm or 3.5 mm needles. I suggest using 40 cm cables, but you can choose DPNs or longer cables, such as you are comfortable making swatches with
• A cable needle or an extra DPN in the same size or slightly smaller
• Pen
• Scissors
